Weekend Happenings
The weekend before last, we had intended to do a short hike along the shore on the west side of the peninsula that Wellington is a part of, a place called Makara Beach. Unfortunately, it was very windy (big surprise, I know!) and we decided against taking Quinn out in that. I did take a few pictures though and we hope to go back when the weather is nicer.
So we decided instead to just drive north and check out whatever we found. As always, we saw sheep.
And it’s amazing to me that in the dead of winter, everything around here is totally green. I know it’s not Minnesota winter, but it’s really odd when the temperature is 45-50 degrees and you’re expecting everything to be brown.
There is a pretty large island called Kapiti Island that is a huge nature reserve. In fact, the government only allows 50 people to visit there per day so it’s quite pristine and there is a lot of interesting wildlife. Another place that we’re sure to visit sometime, but for now, I just took a couple pictures.
We did find another beach that you could drive on and it went for miles. Despite the gloomy weather, there were a few people about and we went for a short stroll. Quinn enjoyed the sand as he loves to pick up handfuls of it and just throw it around. I’m pretty sure there is still sand in the back seat of our car.
We’ve got a bunch more pictures from this last weekend, so they’ll be going up tomorrow I hope.
